Free (Verse)

So you're sat there - pen in hand,
Fingers resting upon the keyboard,
Head wondering, what do I write?
Sometimes you don't know -

Sometimes it's hard to think,
Think of a topic that's interesting,
That people will like, approve, love,
But I don't write for them, for you,
I write for me, to express,
To be free.

The Brit Awards 2015

So, along with a lot of you i'm sure - I watched The Brits last night. If you haven't, I'm sure you have all seen the videos by now of Kanye's song being repeatedly muted and Madonna being pulled over. These are the main parts that I found the most interesting.

I'm glad that Sam Smith won 'Best British Breakthrough' act as his voice is incredible - both live and on his album. But, from working in retail, I have heard his album on repeat many a time! Ed Sheeran won 'British Male Solo Artist', what can I say? I love a bit of Sheeran's album playing on Spotify whilst i'm doing work. His performance was breathtaking and I couldn't take my eyes away from the screen (but I think he may need new guitar strings after) Now, for T-Swift - I think it was clear that she was going to be the overall winner of 'Brit International Female Solo Artist' with her catchy, poppy songs that you can't help but sing along to. Although, I am surprised that Kanye didn't get up onto stage like he has the last two years! Maybe because Kim K was there to reign him in. Looking at Kim K's outfit... the top half is beautiful, but the bottom half (literally bottom half) was.. interesting. She has the tiniest legs and a huge arse, it just didn't look right.

Talking about Kanye, I didn't know what to do during his perfomance. For one, I was confused about the amount of people on stage bopping around - with a random fire hose. Then noticing that ITV had audio muted parts that he swore... which was most of the song. I'm sure he won't be happy when he hears a play back of it. What was amusing was when the camera kept turning toward certain people to see their expressions. Lional Ritchie looked in awe and shock, whilst Taylor Swift, again - looked shocked at first, but the second time she was seen white girl dancing to his song (I don't get how you can dance to it anyway)

Madonna. It was a huge build up to her perfomance, which for me - I wasn't really fussed about watching. It was all going so well at first, but then, as she struggled to get her cape off, two dancers went to pull it off - bringing her down the steps and onto her back. I didn't know what to do! Applause for her getting up and carrying on though, I think I would have burst into tears and ran off the stage. It was a bit ironic how she was singing about 'getting up' and 'carrying on' though, but I'm presuming her fall wasn't meant to happen. But, as Edna said - 'NO CAPES!'

I'm quite annoyed that Ed Sheeran didn't win the 'Brit Award for British Video', because it is lovely - and shows how much hard work and effort he had to put into making that by learning dance moves and also losing weight throughout it (I know that's from swapping beer to vodka, but hey, it sounds like a hell of a good diet!) (and I think he'll be feeling the Brits after party alcohol today) But, I guess, fair play to One Direction as obviously the majority of people voted for them to win. Simon looked extremely happy when he went up onto stage to collect it, but I don't get what Jimmy Carr was going on about with his jokes. He's usually funny in some cases when he's on his own, but last night - his jokes didn't do him justice.

What did you all think to The Brits? Was it has good as previous years? I don't think it'll ever be as scandalous as when the Osbourne family presented it!

Egypt

What's the first thing you think of when you think about Egypt? My thoughts wander to the great pyramids, the heat and deserts - but also the trouble that is occurring over there.

I travelled to Egypt a few years ago - not to the Ancient areas, like Cairo and Giza - but to the more touristy, relaxing areas, Sharm el Sheikh. My company was my family and friend - sitting six hours on the plane, arriving and being greeted with a gush of hot, dry air. Much better climate than England. Gliding through passport control and into the transfer shuttle, we quickly made it to our hotel, The Rixos. It was a beautiful, elegant five star rated hotel, with extra friendly staff that made sure our bags got to our rooms safely, along with offering us a drink. Interestingly enough, our rooms had been selected for an upgrade to a 'Junior Suite' which was incredible, and extremely spacious with a lovely view of the scenery and gardens.

We stayed there for 10 nights, and in this time we (of course) spent a lot of it by the poolside or by the pool bar. Being an all-inclusive hotel, we were drinking cocktails throughout the day, with yummy meals inbetween. The only problem being by the pool, was the fact that people would come down at around 6am to place their towels on a sun bed, like they own it. So eventually, we had to do this - or there were no beds available! But, one morning, a man simply got out of the pool, dried himself with our towel, and walked off. I was fascinated by the rudeness!

Some days we spent our time at the beach, which I would advise not to walk on the scalding hot sand without any shoes on. I have experience. It was bad. As the hotel was on the Red Sea, a lot of it contains coral reef which is protected, so we couldn't walk into the sea, unless we dove off the end of the pier to go snorkelling. But, the sea had left a large pool of water which was basically a warm bath as the piercing hot July sun had warmed it. Sitting there in this bath, multi-coloured, beautiful fish would swim by you, and of course, many people trying to catch them with their hands.

We did actually go snorkelling on an excursion for a day (which i got very burnt on) the sea was a lovely temperature and it was interesting seeing all the types of fish that swum by you. The sea was pure blue, with white sand. Another excursion was to ride a camel in the desert and to have tea with the Bedwins in their tents. My camel seemed to fart a lot, which was lovely. After the end of the half hour ride, the young children who were leading the camels would then continue to harass you for bits of your jewellery for payment, even though we had already payed them at the beginning. I didn't know whether to feel bad or just to quickly walk off. So i quickly walked away. At the Bedwin tents, they made flat breads and showed us how, getting each of us to attempt it and then made us their tea - which was incredibly sweet. The views were amazing. The atmosphere was amazing.

This holiday was a relaxing, yet amazing experience which I am excited to do again this upcoming September! But, I what I will take with me this time is that, when someone tells you to get out of the pool... you do. (A child had pooed) and also not to eat the burger at the Egyptian airport, as 5 minutes before landing, I had to go throw up. Nice.

Careers Week

Okay, well - I haven't wrote on here in quite some time, so I thought I would today!

So, this week at university, it's careers week. This is basically a week that's timetabled with various lectures to help you either in work placements, a year abroad and graduate schemes.
One of the hardest decisions was deciding whether to do a year in industry or a year abroad, coming to the conclusion that it would suit me if I could find a summer internship. It seems so scary how quickly this is all coming around with the larger companies graduate schemes needing to be completed by the 31st December! I'm glad Coventry university is helping us to be the best we can be, whether that's with our CV writing, cover letters, places to look for graduate schemes and workshops available. Many universities don't offer this kind of support.

I sort of know what I'd like to do once I graduate, and i hope to find the right graduate scheme for me. I'd love to go into events management, buying, editing or marketing - any of those career prospects I will look into thoroughly, whether it be a straight up graduate application or possibly a summer internship.

Everyone said that university will be the best and fastest three years of your life, and they were right. Currently more than half way through my time at university and it has flown by! Meeting the most amazing people along the way that are going through exactly the same thing as you are. But I am also looking forward to getting out into the world and hopefully (cross fingers) go into a job I love, and don't mind getting up in the morning.
